U.S. Highway 40 at Berthoud Pass reopens after avalanche buries vehicles; no injuries reported

BERTHOUD, Colo. - U.S. Highway 40 at Berthoud Pass has reopened after an avalanche trapped multiple vehicles Friday.

It is an area where Colorado Department of Transportation says crews had performed avalanche mitigation Thursday. However, more than 18 inches of new snow has fallen since that work was completed.

Colorado State Patrol has confirmed that no injuries have been reported in the avalanche.

CDOT says chain restriction for commercial vehicles is in effect.
