ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Some Colorado drivers said they're worried after discovering that the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is accidentally duplicating driver's license plates around the state
One of those driver is Arvid Anderson, a proud owner of a 1990 Ford Bronco.
“It's in mint condition, it's got very low miles on it. It very rarely leaves this garage,” Anderson said.
However, a tollway notice he received shows the Ford Bronco left the garage at least once.
“I got a letter from the state stating that I owed them four dollars for driving on a toll road somewhere,” said Anderson.
Shocked and confused, Anderson took a closer look at the ticket and noticed the car pictured is a GMC with the same Colorado license plate number as his.
“I had this license plate for probably 30 years,” said Anderson.
Arvid took the notice to the Arapahoe County Motor Vehicle office and they gave him this letter which states his license plate number is duplicated on a specialty plate issued to another vehicle owner in another county. \
Anderson said the error is concerning to him.
“If there are duplicate plates around the state and the other person commits a crime but somebody catches the license plate as he is driving away, then they are scanning for that plate and I could be under surveillance,” said Anderson.
A DMV spokesperson told Denver7 they are aware of the issue and are working on fixing the problem.
