JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Ever since a massive sinkhole occurred on Simms Street in south Jefferson County, traffic has shared the opposite side of the road. Starting Tuesday morning, however, the road will need to close to all traffic to allow for repairs.
The 20 x 20-foot sinkhole just south of Coal Mine Road was likely caused by the failure of a large drainage culvert under the roadway, county spokeswoman Kathryn Heider said. The full road closure will begin at 9 a.m.
So far, there is no estimated time of completion for the repairs.
The county says updated information will be posted on the Jefferson County Road & Bridge website.
