JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – A deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a head-on collision Sunday as the metro area is experiencing its biggest snowstorm of the season.

The head-on collision was reported around 11 a.m. on US 285 between Pine Junction and Elk Creek Road at the Red Sparrow Trail near milepost 230, according to a spokesperson from the Colorado State Patrol – Golden division.

A CSP Trooper at the scene told Denver7 photojournalist Eric Goody the crash involved a minivan and a Jefferson County deputy’s sport utility vehicle.

The minivan reportedly crossed the median, colliding with the deputy’s patrol car.

The deputy and the driver from the minivan were taken to a hospital to be checked out for minor injuries, according to sheriff's spokesman Mark Techmeyer.
