A new report says Coloradans are the eighth worst drivers in the country.
QuoteWizard, an insurance comparison site, said it reviewed fatal crashes, total accidents, speeding tickets and DUI citations to determine the best and worst driving states in the country.
The top 10 states for the worst drivers are Utah, California, Virginia, Maine, Nebraska, South Carolina, North Dakota, Colorado, Washington and Arizona.
Here is a list of all the rankings.
Utah was ranked worst because drivers there ranked second for both accidents and speeding, as well as fourth-worst for minor citations.
"Surprising for a state known for its non-drinking populace, Utah actually made the top 10 for DUIs, coming in at number nine," according to QuoteWizard.
The top 10 states for the best drivers are Rhode Island, Florida, Mississippi, Michigan, Nevada, Arkansas, South Dakota, Illinois, West Virginia and Oklahoma.
"Extremely low fatalities per licensed drivers combined with good scores across the board mean that Rhode Islanders have plenty to be proud of," QuoteWizard said.
In Colorado, it is yet another list car owners don't want to be on, according to insurance industry experts.
"Colorado is on that collision course of all of these factors: more drivers, more drivers getting in crashes, more bad drivers," said Carole Walker, the executive director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association.
Walker said Colorado is also second in the nation for hail insurance claims and fourth for physical damage claims.
"The trends we have seen in the past five years in Colorado double digit increases in car insurance premiums that are just starting to hit people’s premium notices," said Walker. "Unfortunately, that is adding up to higher insurance premiums for everyone."
