CDOT tries metering Santa Fe ramp to I-25

DENVER - Drivers using the ramp from Santa Fe Drive to northbound Interstate 25 will see something different for the next two weeks -- stop lights.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is testing ramp metering for the next two weeks.

"The I-25 merge comes to a stall and the queue backups extend upstream towards the I-25/Broadway exit during peak and often during non-peak hours," CDOT explained. "In an effort to improve the traffic flow and reduce congestion, the ramp metering pilot will test a variety of ramp metering strategies on the northbound Santa Fe Drive entrance ramp and will assess potential operational improvements."

CDOT is also planning to create a fourth lane on northbound I-25 between Santa Fe Drive and U.S. 6 in early August to get traffic flowing, according to the Denver Post.
