DENVER -- Have you shoveled your sidewalk? Would you like to encourage your neighbor to shovel his?The city of Denver wants to remind residents they should have the walks clear of all ice and snow by now.The city sent out a message on Twitter Wednesday morning that read, "residential sidewalk complaints may be taken after noon today, e-mail or call us at 311. And please note the exact address."
The city says this is the official warning that snow needs to be cleared. I took a walk down several sidewalks throughout the city. I saw several people shoveling and chipping off the ice from the sidewalks but I saw many more that are still covered in snow and ice. The city of Denver requires residential sidewalks to be clear of all ice and snow 24 hours after a storm. Businesses have 4 hours to clear out the snow. The city said it’s a matter of safety for people walking to work but especially for people in wheelchairs or for residents pushing a baby stroller. As for turning in your neighbor, Denver suggested calling 311 but they also said before you call to complain, give your neighbor the benefit of the doubt, they might be working late or have some other unforeseen circumstance.
