What's That Construction Going On Along 6th Ave?

Fastracks West Light Rail Line Moving Along Very Fast

POSTED: 4:24 pm MDT August 25, 2009

Some 7News viewers are asking, “What is the construction going on along West Sixth Avenue and West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood and Golden?” It is work for the first Fastracks light rail line that will connect downtown Denver to the Jefferson County Justice Center.

The bridge abutments that drivers have seen from the highway are for the three main structures that will span West Sixth Avenue and West Colfax Avenue.

Kathy Berumen, Denver Transit Construction Group Spokeswoman told 7News it is spending $10 million a month on the construction. The first major closure will happen in mid-September, when crews will close West Colfax Avenue to place the bridge girders over the road.

The project construction will last until the end of 2012 and carry the first passengers by the middle of 2013.
