Motorized roller-skates raise $120,000 on Kickstarter in one day

DENVER -
You recall the “Potato Salad” project on Kickstarter that raised over $40,000. Meet the latest overnight sensation, "Rocketskates". It raised $66,000 in a single afternoon and $120,000 a day after going live. The launch was so successful that the manufacturer extended the project another 42 days.

Rocketskates are motorized, rechargeable roller-skates that get up to an hour-and-a-half on a charge. Each skate has two hub motors, a microprocessor, and a lithium-ion battery pack. The on-board computers talk with each other to ensure that each skate travel at the same speeds. Despite the amount of gear, these weigh only 7 pounds.

Rocketskates come with a hefty price tag. There are three models: $200, $400, and $700. The prices will increase after the initial development stage. The skates also come with an app that tracks your rides and allows you to connect with other Rocketskate enthusiasts.
