DENVER - Weeding through available singles just got a whole lot easier for cannabis consumers, thanks to a Denver-based startup.
An app called "High There" is like Tinder, but for marijuana users. CEO and co-founder Todd Mitchem says it's helping people with similar lifestyles meet one another.
"People have been looking for a conduit both for dating and also medicinal reasons, just to connect with each other," said Mitchem. "Last count, we're at 32,000 to 33,000 downloads."
Mitchem says he was tired of the Denver dating scene, where marijuana can often be a deal breaker, even in a state with legal weed. High There is designed with pot-friendly singles in mind.
"Rather than dating for simple attributes, like what do you do? What do you look like? How tall are you? This is about a shared experience around cannabis," says Mitchem.
Signing up is simple. Download the High There app and create a brief bio in 420 characters or less. Describe your energy level and preferred activities and the app does the rest.
High There only works in the 23 states where marijuana is at least medically legal.
"What we've done is geo-fenced in those states. So for example: if you fly to Texas, the app doesn't function," said Mitchem.
The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.
