Djokovic Captures Vienna Title

POSTED: 8:17 am MDT October 14, 2007

(Sports Network) - Novak Djokovic of Serbia earned his fifth title of 2007 with a straight-set victory over Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the final of the BA-CA Tennis Trophy tournament.

The top-seeded Djokovic needed just an hour and 15 minutes to post a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. He improved to 5-2 in finals this year, having previously won in Adelaide, Miami, Estoril and Montreal.

This was Djokovic's first tournament since finishing as the runner-up to Roger Federer at the U.S. Open. In addition to the loss at Flushing Meadows, Djokovic also dropped a title match to Rafael Nadal at Indian Wells in March.

Wawrinka, who won a mere four points in the second set, was trying for his first title of the year and the second of his career. His first tournament win came last year in Umag, when he beat Djokovic, who was forced to retire from that match with respiratory problems.

Djokovic, who also lost to Wawrinka in the second round of this tournament last year, would not be denied this time. After a tight first set that featured just one break of serve, the 20-year-old Serb broke three times in the dominant second set.

The victory was worth $188,000 for Djokovic, who recorded his ATP-best 65th match win of the year and captured his seventh career ATP singles title in 10 finals appearances. It also marked his second title on an indoor hard surface, following his triumph in Metz nearly a year ago.

Wawrinka, who also lost a final to Nadal in Stuttgart this summer, fell to 1-3 in ATP title matches.
