DENVER -- Now that gas prices are so high, many drivers are looking at alternative ways to get to work. While it may get too cold to bike or walk during the fall and winter months in Colorado, have you thought about carpooling?A government Web site makes it easy to find a carpooling partner. CarpoolPlus.org was created by the Denver Regional Council of Governments and its sole purpose is to help you find a carpool match. All you need to is create a profile and type in where you live, where you work and the hours that you're at the office and the site will come up with a list of people who match your carpool needs. It will post their names and contact information and then it's up to you to call or e-mail them.
The site doesn't give out home addresses and promises not to give out any of your personal information, but nevertheless, you might consider posting your work phone instead of your home phone. It also has a neat calculator so you can see exactly how much money you would save on gas and car maintenance if you carpooled. DrCOG says if everyone in the metro area just carpooled one day, there would be 20 percent fewer cars on the road.
