Wal-Mart has officially launched its 88-cent music download service on its Web site.

The company began testing music downloads in December to gauge customer feedback.

Wal-Mart said its music catalog has expanded by more than 50 percent since the test phase and now offers thousands of songs.

It said exclusive songs by artists like Jessica Simpson, 3 Doors Down, Black Eyed Peas, Hilary Duff, Shania Twain, Shakira and others have been added.

Wal-Mart said the site includes a new "download manager" that enables customers to easily download full albums and groups of songs.

After years of digital music almost always meaning downloads that some say were illegal copies, several companies are trying to sell music online with the blessing of the music industry.
