DENVER -- Colorado State Treasurer Mike Coffman will officially launch the state's first online auction of unclaimed property on Tuesday, joining just five other states that are using the Internet for unclaimed asset sales.
Coffman said that after a successful pilot program resulted in much higher than anticipated auction prices, the state will now permanently use eBay to place the items up for bid.
The Great Colorado Payback, the state's unclaimed property program, holds
unclaimed assets, including safety deposit boxes, savings accounts, IRAs
and other property-turned over to the state by financial institutions,
insurance companies and other businesses until the assets can by claimed by their
rightful owner.
There are roughly one million names currently on file at the Great Colorado Payback office.
To find out if something is owed to you, check out the Great Colorado Payback program at the state treasurer's Web site or call 303-894-2443 or toll-free at 800-825-2111;
There is no charge for the service and there is no time limit to file a claim.
