Online Bush Shoe-Throwing Games Go Viral

Several Internet Sites Put Up Virtual Games Based On Baghdad Incident

POSTED: 9:16 am MST December 16, 2008

You've seen the video, now online Flash games that allow players to throw virtual shoes, or shoot thrown shoes out of the air before they hit the president have become viral on the Internet.

The people behind www.SockandAwe.com have come up with a Flash-based game that gives the thrower an unlimited supply of shoes to throw at the president, as he dodges.

It's not the only shoe-throwing game that has popped up in the last 48 hours.

A UK Web site has put up "Bush's Boot Camp," with a twist. You become a Secret Service agent and your goal is to shoot thrown shoes in mid-air.

In the background music a loop of altered audio clips from Bush can be heard saying, "Those weapons of mass destruction gotta be somewhere," and "It'll take time to restore chaos."

"If you watch the video clip, the Secret Service don't move to protect the President until the second shoe has been thrown," said Sadi Chishti, managing director of T-Enterprise, told Telegraph.co.uk. "We're hoping the agents will use this game as a training aid for future footwear attacks on world leaders."

There is also a foreign "Flying Babush" game that ends with the president being kicked the face by a boot.

"This is going viral at a rapid pace, unlike anything I've seen post-election," David Burch, marketing manager for YouTube tracker TubeMogul, told The Washington Times.

"People are uploading videos of the incident to YouTube at an average rate of 209 per hour. Currently, there are over 5,000 versions, totaling over 8,145,000 views," he said.
