Assignment Desk Producer

DUTIES: Coordinates daily news story coverage as conceived by the Assignment Manager and news management. Make certain such coverage is handled efficiently and expeditiously. Must be a newsroom leader and advocate for the newscast. Aggressively respond to breaking news. Assign crews to spot news stories. Develop contacts and sources. Remain alert to radios and scanners for spot news and be able to efficiently move available crews into place for coverage. Coordinate with ABC network and affiliated stations for shared news coverage. Secure and conduct interviews when applicable. Communicate with newsroom on progress of stories. Will write stories, edit video and build graphics for the newscast, along with posting stories and video to station’s website. Will determine content for newscast by monitoring various news sources, information from assignment desk and emails. Have ability to work well with others and maintain quality control.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be fully knowledgeable on television station newsroom functions. Background knowledge of current local, regional and national events and the relationship to our market desired. Sound news judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment are essential. The ideal candidate can work effectively with many personalities, stay organized, manage pressure, keep organized and multi-task. Two years of television news production and/or assignment desk experience preferred. We are a seven-day a week, twenty-four hour per day operation. Irregular hours and scheduling should be expected.
