ASHEVILLE, NC. - Two relief pitchers from a minor league team associated with the Colorado Rockies are charged with rape.
Arrest reports from police in Asheville, North Carolina show warrants were issued for Michael Ryan Mason and Jesse Meaux Thursday. Both men, players for the Asheville Tourists, face two counts of first degree rape and two counts of a first degree sex offense.
They are being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility on $100,000 bond.
Because it is a sex offense, most of the details are redacted from the documents. However, an incident report does indicate drugs or alcohol were involved.
The only description of the crime appears in a field labeled "How Attacked or Committed."
It says, "Sex Acts/Put Hand Into Vagina, Sex Acts/Rape or Attempt, Force Used/Held Down, Sex [sic]."
The Rockies and the Tourists released this statement about the arrests:
"The Colorado Rockies and their affiliate, the Asheville Tourists, are aware of the arrests and the very serious allegations made against two players, Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux. Each organization is shocked and deeply concerned about the allegations. At this time, the players have been suspended as the investigation and legal process continue.
"We are working with the authorities investigating the circumstances and issues surrounding the events and are awaiting further details and findings. Given that this is an ongoing legal investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate any further."
