DENVER - Permanent walkthrough metal detectors will be installed at all entrances to the Pepsi Center, the arena's managing company announced Tuesday.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment says the magnetometers are intended to "enhance safety and security" during Nuggets games, Avalanche games, shows and concerts.
"The decision to install (walkthrough metal detectors) at Pepsi Center comes on the heels of many professional sporting leagues becoming more proactive in their security check requirements," the company wrote in an announcement.
During the last NBA season, the league required fans to be searched with handheld metal detectors and open their bags for inspection. The walkthrough metal detectors are expected to result in a much faster security screening process.
The Pepsi Center has some past experience with portable walkthrough metal detectors, having used them during the Democratic National Convention, the NBA Western Conference Finals and the 2005 NBA All-Star game.
