NBA Commissioner David Stern set to retire from league

NEW YORK - NBA commissioner David Stern will announce late Thursday that he will be retiring as league commissioner on Feb. 1, 2014, according to ESPN.

Stern, 70, has been the NBA commissioner since Feb. 1, 1984. During his time as commissioner, Stern has helped drive the NBA into deeper popularity as he has resided over the the careers of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
