Glendale Raptors Rugby prepping for Western Rugby Union Playoffs

Bring nonperishable food items and get 50% off

Glendale, CO - The Glendale Raptors have reached the end of the 2013 regulation season and are preparing to head into the Western Rugby Union (WRU) playoffs this weekend. The playoffs will be hosted at Infinity Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Six teams will be competing for seeding in USA Rugby’s Round of 32. Joining the Raptors at Infinity Park this weekend will be the Denver Barbarians, Provo Steelers, Kansas City Blues, Boulder RFC and the Denver Highlanders.

As the #3 ranked team in the WRU, Glendale will kick off against Kansas City Saturday in the stadium at 2 p.m.

Plus, Infinity Park is partnering with 7NEWS and arc Thrift Stores to collect non-perishable food items for the 13th annual “Feed Colorado” Food Drive.

This Saturday and Sunday, fans who bring a non-perishable food, such as rice, beans, pasta, peanut butter, canned goods (veggies and fruit), soup, cereal and juice, etc., will receive 50% off of the price of their ticket.  This applies only to individual day tickets purchased at the gate.  We encourage all of the NSCRO teams and their supports to bring something with them to support this very worthy cause.

One in seven Coloradoans worry about where they will find their next meal.  Nearly half of these individuals are children.  arc Thrift Stores, 7NEWS and AARP’s Drive to End Hunger has kicked off the 13th annual “Feed Colorado” food drive. Last year a record 150 tons of food were collected and donated to Volunteers of America’s (VOA) City Harvest Food Bank.

The Raptors had a successful friendly campaign in Kansas City against the Blues earlier this season. That doesn’t mean that there will be any less tension or anticipation when these two teams take the field on Saturday. Glendale cannot afford to let their guard down against the Blues – or any team they could face this weekend – simply because they had earned a win earlier in the season.

“The WRU playoffs are the next step in our progression this season and we cannot let our discipline slip simply because we’ve bested some of our competition earlier in the year,” said Head Coach Andre Snyman. “Our guys will face some tough competition; we need to focus on taking care of the ball, maintaining pace and possession, and most importantly, reducing the simple mistakes that can lead to scoring opportunities for our opponents.”

Pending the outcome of Saturday’s match, the Raptors will play against the loser of game three (Barbos v. Steelers) if they win, or they will take on the winner of game one (Highlanders v. Boulder).  If Glendale wins on Saturday, they will kick off at 2 p.m. on Sunday. If they lose on Saturday, they will kick off at noon on Sunday. Regardless, each Glendale match will be held in the stadium.

Saturday’s full WRU schedule is as follows:

- Noon: Denver Highlanders v. Boulder RFC – Park

- 2 p.m.: Glendale Raptors v. Kansas City Blues – Stadium

- 4 p.m.: Denver Barbarians v. Provo Steelers – Stadium

Come out to Infinity Park this weekend for some rugby excitement and to support your Glendale Raptors in their 2013 playoff birth!
