Colorado Rapids clinch playoff spot

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids clinched a playoff spot without having to take to the field on Saturday.

Colorado qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs, which will begin next week, after San Jose beat FC Dallas 2-1 on Saturday. The result left San Jose short of Colorado in the standings on all possible tiebreakers.

Colorado plays its final regular season match on Sunday night at 6 p.m. MT in Vancouver, and will learn its first round opponent and date following the game. The Rapids are currently in 5th place but could still finish as high as 2nd in the Western Conference.

Colorado has set single-season franchise records for wins (14) and points (51) in 2013.
