ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Cameron Bairstow scored New Mexico's first seven points and equaled his career high with 29 points while also grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds to help push the Lobos to an 80-73 win over Colorado State on Saturday.
Kendall Williams added 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for New Mexico in its Mountain West opener, while Daniel Bejarano scored a career-high 25 for the Rams (9-6, 0-2).
The Lobos (10-3, 1-0) grabbed a 26-18 advantage midway through the first half with a 13-4 run behind seven points from Williams.
A 4-point play from Williams at the 12:11 mark gave New Mexico its largest lead to that point at 54-41, but the Rams closed to within 54-46 after Bejarano hit a 3-pointer.
Colorado State later cut it to 76-71 after another Bejarano 3-pointer with 34.4 seconds left, but a Williams drive and a foul shot clinched it.
