Denver Broncos' lineman Ben Garland promoted to Captain in Air Force/Colorado Air National Guard

DENVER - Denver Broncos lineman Ben Garland was promoted to captain in the Colorado Air National Guard and Air Force Monday.

Garland, who is from Grand Junction, graduated from the Air Force Academy and signed with the Broncos as a college free agent in 2010.

Garland played with the Broncos during the 2010 preseason before spending 2010-11 on the Broncos' reserve/military list while fulfilling his obligations to the Air Force Academy.

He was granted an early release from Air Force duty through the "Palace Chase" program that allows airmen to pursue careers that will help recruit or bring positive publicity to the Air Force.

Garland has played on the Broncos practice squad while serving in the 140th wing, Colorado Air National Guard, at Buckley Air Force Base.
