Broncos sign free agent safety T.J. Ward

DENVER - Free agent safety T.J. Ward signed with the Denver Broncos during the opening hours of free agency.

The acquisition was confirmed on Twitter by VP and GM of Football Operations John Elway.

"Excited to announce we've agreed to terms with strong safety T.J. Ward. He'll bring energy and toughness to our secondary," Elway tweeted.

Ward, 27, was drafted in 2010 by the Cleveland Browns. He has played in 54 career games.

Following last season's record-setting offense, defense was expected to be a focus for the Broncos during this free agency period.

Free agency began at 2 p.m. MT Tuesday, following a three-day negotiation period. Just prior to the start of free agency, the Broncos reached an agreement to keep wide receiver Andre Caldwell in Denver for two more years.

Denver also announced the hiring of Assistant Offensive Line Coach James Cregg and Offensive Quality Control Coach Bo Hardegree during the opening hours of free agency.
