Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning named Colorado Male Athlete of the Year

Skier Mikaela Shiffrin wins female honor

DENVER - Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was named the 2013 male athlete of the year by the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

Manning and the Colorado Female Athlete of the Year, skier Mikaela Shiffrin, will be honored at the 2013 Colorado Sports Hall of Fame banquet on April 17. The two were chosen Tuesday by the organization's Selection Committee.

In his second year in Colorado, this is also Manning's second selection to as athlete of the year. Previous two-time winners are Alex English (1982,1985), Joe Sakic (1996, 2001) and Broncos teammate Champ Bailey (2005-06).

During the regular season, Manning set new NFL records with 55 touchdown passes and 5,477 passing yards. His team also set a new record for points scored in a season.

Shiffrin's accomplishments during 2013 include winning the slalom title at the 2013 World Championships at Schladming, Austria and four other slalom event titles.
