CHICAGO -- A fine line exists between realizing goals and wallowing in disappointment. In the NFL, it starts, often, with a fine line. For the Broncos to improve, they need better upfront.
Their offensive line boasts three new pieces, with rookie left tackle Garett Boles, right guard Ron Leary and right tackle Menelik Watson providing healthy doses of big, mean and nasty. New line coach Jeff Davidson is fostering an attitude with an edge, while realizing the group needs work (Watson allowed a sack on the offense's first snap, was called for hands to the face, and Max Garcia was called for holding on the first drive).
For all of the optimism about the newcomers, the best news Thursday came form a holdover.
Center Matt Paradis told Denver7 he's thrilled with his body's response to surgery on both hips.
"It's better than I expected. I am excited to get out there in a game," said Paradis, who sat out the opener as planned as he increases his activity.
Paradis underwent the operations to relieve pain and allow him to practice. He has participated in multiple training camp workouts, looking more physical while providing leadership. Paradis has not missed an offensive snap over the past two seasons. He worked his way from practice squader to team leader. He earned Pro Bowl alternate honors a year ago, despite being unable to practice for more than half the season.
"I went through a tough workout today, and again, it feels great," Paradis said. "I can't wait to get out there."
