The Denver Broncos have contacted the agent for Peyton Manning, and NFL sources say Manning does have some interest in playing for the Broncos, 7Sports Director Lionel Bienvenu has confirmed.
Sources in New Orleans with ties to the Manning family say Peyton is open to playing in Denver, but the Broncos are not necessarily his first choice. This is good news for John Elway and John Fox, who now know they have a chance in landing the future Hall of Fame QB. Twelve teams have officially made calls to Peyton's agent. More were expected to do the same on Thursday.
Speculation is the Dolphins are No. 1 in the Manning sweepstakes. Manning is quoted in a Miami newspaper as saying Dan Marino is his all-time favorite QB and the Dolphins are a great organization.
Already Marino has sent a "shout out" Tweet to Manning, and LeBron James has contacted Manning via Twitter as well.
The Dolphins have a "full court" press on Manning. After the press conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Manning flew by private jet to Miami, where he owns a home. Free agent receiver Reggie Wayne, Peyton's former teammate in Indy and a Miami resident, said Wednesday that he would love to be part of a package deal with Manning and sign with the Dolphins.
If the Broncos were to sign Manning, where would that leave Tim Tebow?
Bienvenu said, "Best case scenario is Manning comes in. Tebow listens and learns, improves his passing, maybe plays in a 'Tebow package,' then takes over when Manning is done. Tebow would get direction from Manning and Elway, two of the top five QB's to ever play the game. But after going 8-5 with that playoff victory over the Steelers last season, I can't see Tebow being happy going back to the bench as a backup. I don't know if there's room for Manning and Tebow on the same team."
