Avs coach Patrick Roy went off on goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere after the Flames beat the Avs 4-3.

Miscommunication by centers Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene led to an Avalanche bench minor and Calgary's winning goal Monday night at the Pepsi Center. Then, after absorbing a 4-3 loss to the offensively inept Flames — who had scored just once in their four previous games — Colorado coach Patrick Roy called out losing goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

"It was a game that should (have) finished 2-1 for us," Roy said. "We should not have given (up) more than one goal."

After being told that Giguere said the Flames seemed to be "a little hungrier" in front of the nets, Roy said: "I think Jiggy should have played better tonight. We're not going to look at our team. We might not have had the jump we should have, but Jiggy needs to be better. He hasn't played well in the last four or five games. He should stand up and say, 'I'm not playing up to what I should.' And he did not. He needs to be better, and we need him playing better. Period."

Calgary won for the first time in a 10-game stretch after Mike Cammalleri capitalized on the Avs' too-many-men penalty and a terrific pass by Juri Hudler with 3:30 left. The loss overshadowed excellent performances by Stastny (goal, two assists) and Nathan MacKinnon (two goals).

MacKinnon and Ryan O'Reilly suffered lower-body injuries in the third period and were getting X-rays at press time. The winning goal came after Stastny and Duchene were supposed to change for each other but both got caught on the ice.

"Those things happen," Roy said. "Bad change by us."

Hudler gave the Flames a 3-2 lead late in the third period before Stastny tied it 9:33 into the third.

"No easy game in this league. We have to learn this sometimes the hard way," Giguere said before Roy's news conference. "You beat some good teams, and after that you have a day off and come out against a team that's behind you in the standings (and) sometimes it's hard to get going. As a group we have to find a way to win those games."
