Online Casino Wants To Purchase St. Louis Blues

POSTED: 6:31 pm MDT July 6, 2005

Casino Fortune.com, an online gaming firm with headquarters in Trinidad, has announced its desire to purchase the St. Louis Blues and its home arena, the Savvis Center.

Casino Fortune announced on its website that its executives and investors would be available to travel to St. Louis next week for a proposed in-person meeting. The company said it has submitted a letter of intent to owner Bill Laurie's office.

St. Louis management and the National Hockey League have not yet responded to repeated inquiries from the online casino.

"We understand that hockey's image might have been hurt by the lockout this season, but we believe this is a smart investment and will be financially lucrative in the long run" said Casino Fortune president Dennis Rose. "St. Louis has a long standing hockey tradition with a fan base more dedicated than almost any other market. Once the lockout is over, we know this will translate into a successful brand that will flourish for years to come."

Casino Fortune.com, which is licensed in Antigua and Barbuda, has made attempts in the past to buy professional teams, but has always come up empty. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the company has previously made offers to purchase the Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns.

In addition to the sporting world, Casino Fortune.com once tried to buy "The Charging Bull," the statue that symbolizes Wall Street, a seat on a NASA space shuttle, as well as offering real estate billionaire Donald Trump $400 million for a 31 percent share in his casino company. However, many of these reported purchases have been quickly shot down as nothing more than an attempt to publicize the gaming site.

"We will buy this team and begin incorporating our brand into uniforms and the name of the arena." said Rose. "We are one of the few online casinos that don't allow any wagers on sports events, and that is because our business model has always anticipated us buying a sports team in the U.S."
