Glendale’s Lisa Rosen Appointed Rugby All-Star Head Coach
The Western Rugby Union Executive Committee was unanimous in approving her appointment.
Lisa Rosen has been appointed head coach of the Western Rugby Union’s Senior Women’s All-Stars . The West Executive Committee was unanimous in approving her appointment. Her qualifications in the rugby community are impressive.
Rosen is currently head coach for the Glendale Women’s Premier League team. They were awarded 2011 Club of the Year byRugby Magazine and This Is American Rugby, and were promoted from Division I to the WPL for 2012.
Rosen’s coaching experience at the all-star level is extensive. She has been head coach of the Collegiate All-American Women , the MARFU Women, the EPRU Senior Women, and assistant coach for theUSA U-20 Women,U-23 Women and U19 Women.
At a competitive club level, Rosen has coached Philadelphia Women’s Rugby , Temple University, the Albany Sirens and the Colorado Springs She-Wolves . In addition, Lisa serves as a USA Rugby Coach Development Program Leader and Reviewer. She is a licensed IRB Educator and has completed the USA Rugby Advanced Coaching Course and IRB Level 3 Course as well.
“When you take on a position like this you really do take on a bigger responsibility on a larger scale to the rest of the Union,” said Rosen. “We’re looking to create a program that’s sustainable for the long term. We’re going to be really transparent and inclusive and we want to cast a wide net for players.”
The West has struggled at the all-star level for the past few years. Rosen will be setting up some development camps early in the season and she’s already reaching out to the community, looking to see what dates will be best for maximum participation.
Rosen says the approach to building an all-star team is twofold. “You’re identifying those athletes who have the potential to be all-star caliber players and then putting together a structure that’s going to help them get the development they need.”
When the camp schedule and tryout schedule are published, Rosen is encouraging a high level of participation. “A player that might not be ready for an all-star position this year might very well be competitive next year. It might be that all they need is exposure to other high level athletes, and exposure to some different coaching styles.”
