With every snow storm, avalanche danger increases in Colorado's high country.February and March are typically the months with the most avalanches and Colorado has the highest number of fatalities from them in the nation.Here are the basic avalanche survival tips.
If you're caught in a slide, keep your mouth closed to keep snow out. Make swimming motions with your arms because you can move through snow like water when it's moving. Don't try to hold on to your gear -- it can drag you under the surface.
