Mariners Sign Ichiro To Four-Year Extension

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners rightfielder Ichiro Suzuki
has agreed to a four-year contract extension, according to Seattle
Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations
Bill Bavasi.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Ichiro hit .312 last season along with 13 homers, 29 doubles, 8 triples with
62 RBIs. His 212 hits, have given him three consecutive seasons with 200-plus
hits. It also made him just the third player in ML history to accomplish the
feat.
Ichiro was also the leading vote getter in the All-Star Game for the third
season in a row. Last season he collected his third consecutive Gold Glove.
Last season, Ichiro led the Majors with 66 multi-hit games. He also ranked
among AL leaders in hits (2nd), batting average (7th), triples (8/T8th), runs
(111/T7th) and stolen bases (34/T5th). His 12 outfield assists had him ranked
fourth-most in the AL.
In his career, Ichiro has a batting average of .328, with 29 home runs, 90
doubles, 24 triples, and 183 RBIs in three seasons since joining Seattle. He
has stolen 121 bases, while only being caught 21 times. He is the franchise
leader in average for the Mariners.
Ichiro spent nine seasons with Orix of the Japanese League before becoming a
Mariner.
