DENVER -- Tim Tebow may have only joined the Denver Broncos on Friday, but already he's breaking records. His jersey has turned out to be a hot seller. Tebow's jersey has set a record for an NFL draftee, topping Mark Sanchez's New York Jets jersey last season.A first-round pick of the Denver Broncos, Tebow sold more jerseys during the NFL draft weekend than any other rookie or current player, according to Bloomberg.com, which spoke to a source with NFLshop.com.
On Monday, the term "Tim Tebow Broncos jersey" was one of the top 10 search terms on Google.Tebow held up a No. 10 jersey on Friday when he stopped by Dove Valley, but he may be wearing No. 15 -- which is Brandon Marshall's old number and Tebow's number at the University of Florida. That number became available after Marshall was traded two weeks ago. It's not known how many Tebow jerseys have been sold so far because the league does not release those figures. The No. 1 overall pick, St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, was third in rookie jersey sales. His jerseys were preceded by sales of Ndamukong Suh's Detroit Lions jersey. And the Tebow jerseys aren't cheap. The NFL shop is selling an adult jersey for $80-$95 and a child's jersey for $60.The Broncos selected Tebow, a 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, with its 25 pick. He led the Gators to two national championships during his four-year career at the school.Critics have questioned Tebow's selection, saying he has an unorthodox throwing motion and a slow release. But even if he ends up warming the bench his first season, his selection is already paying off for the Broncos.
