EAGLE, Colo. -- The public won't know until sometime next week if basketball star Kobe Bryant will be charged in connection with a sexual assault allegation in Eagle County, but 7NEWS has learned more about the 19-year-old Colorado woman who told police she was attacked by Byrant.
She is a 2002 graduate of Eagle Valley High School and was a varsity cheerleader. She's currently enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado. Friends and neighbors have told 7NEWS that she's a good singer and pianist and had tried out for the TV talent show "American Idol."
She worked as a concierge at the Cordillera Resort and Spa in Edwards, where the alleged attack occurred on June 30.The district attorney said he will not make a decision on whether to file charges against the Los Angeles Lakers star until sometime next week. He said is looking at obtaining more information and needs more time. Both Bryant and his accuser went to hospitals after the alleged attack, authorities said. The taxi driver who drove Bryant, 24, and his entourage from the hospital on the night in question described their behavior as "strange." "Secretiveness ... urgency ... all that stuff. There was definitely something going down," said cabbie Terry O'Brien. "They asked me to turn on the radio so I wouldn't hear what was being said."
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office released the booking photo of Bryant Friday (pictured, right), even though the District Attorney said earlier in the week it wouldn't be released unless Bryant was charged. Booking photos are routinely released when a peson is arrested, even though no formal charges have been filed.

Prosecutors said the woman who reported the alleged assault has spent time wih victim-services advocates to prepare her for the intense scrutiny she will face.Reporters from around the country have streamed through the middle-class cul-de-sac where the woman lives with her parents in a house landscaped with evergreen trees and adorned with a basketball hoop over the two-car garage.Although the media has not identified her, many people in this small town of 3,000 already know who it is."Every time I talked to her, she was a real sweetheart. She was just really sweet to me," said Lauren McNeil, 15.Lindsey McKinney, a friend, said she traveled with the woman to Austin, Texas, in November to try out for the "American Idol" TV talent show. McKinney said they slept outside for 12 hours to get an audition.Neither made it to the second round, but McKinney said she felt worse for her friend than for herself, because she did a beautiful rendition of the country song "Forgive" by Rebecca Lynn Howard.McKinney said the two later had a falling out after the woman took the side of McKinney's former boyfriend."She craves attention like no other. This is the bad kind of attention that she's going to get," McKinney said. The woman's father spoke with 7NEWS but declined to go on camera.According to the Denver Post, a guest staying near Byrant's room called the front desk to complain of a late-night ruckus on June 30. Hotel staff members were called in to look into the matter.Bryant's attorneys, who said he was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic, say he's innocent and expects to be exonerated.
