Vikings, Childress Agree To Extension

POSTED: 9:08 pm MST November 19, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings extended the contract of head coach Brad Childress on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Childress, who was instrumental in bringing quarterback Brett Favre out of retirement in the offseason, has led Minnesota to an 8-1 record in this his fourth year with the club.

"Brad has done a tremendous job leading this football team and we value the positive environment he has created for the Minnesota Vikings on and off the field," said Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. "He has continued to positively impact this team and create a strong foundation for future success."

Childress' record was 24-24 with the Vikings heading into the year, highlighted by an NFC North title in 2008.

The former Eagles offensive coordinator (2002-05) has spent 12 of his 32 years in coaching on NFL sidelines. He also spent time as Wisconsin's offensive coordinator from 1991 to 1998.

"My family and I are very fortunate to be a part of the Minnesota Vikings organization," Childress said. "I value the opportunity to continue to lead this team over the next several years as we work toward our ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl for our passionate fans everywhere."
