GAME NOTES: The Boston College Eagles will try to remain perfect at home when they step out of ACC action to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in a non-league affair this Saturday at Alumni Stadium.

The Chippewas began their season with a 19-6 loss to Arizona, but since then the team has been unstoppable, winning seven consecutive matchups. The last time Central Michigan was on the field the team defeated Bowling Green, 24-10. It was the fourth road win for the Chippewas, who have won at least four games as the visitor in each of the past four seasons.

As for the Eagles, they are coming off a tough 20-16 setback to Notre Dame on the road. It was the second loss in the last three games for Boston College, which is now 5-3 on the year. However, all five wins for the Eagles have come at home.

This will only be the third meeting between the two schools on the gridiron. The first two matchups were won by Boston College, and that includes a 43-0 victory for the Eagles over CMU.

The Chippewas' success offensively is mainly due to the production of quarterback Dan LeFevour, who has done everything for this unit. The ground game is pounding opponents for 178.5 ypg, but the team is being led by LeFevour and wideout Antonio Brown. The senior signal caller has amassed 522 rushing yards and nine scores, while Brown has contributed 275 yards on 10.2 yards per attempt. On top of his running abilities, LeFevour has also done a tremendous job with his arm, throwing for 1,696 yards and 16 touchdowns, while completing an outstanding 70.0 percent of his passes. Of course LeFevour's main option is Brown, who is leading the team with 48 receptions, 544 yards and seven scores. Bryan Anderson and Kito Poblah have also contributed, as Anderson has hauled in 33 passes for 436 yards and two scores, while Poblah has caught 30 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns. In the team's recent win over Bowling Green, the Chippewas dominated the Falcons on the ground, rushing for 259 yards. LeFevour led the way with 128 yards, while Carl Volny added 74 yards and Brown contributed 42 yards and one score. LeFevour also threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns in the win, and one of those touchdowns went to Brown, who finished with five receptions and 68 yards.

The play of LeFevour usually draws the attention of most opponents, but the play of the defense is one of the main reasons why Central Michigan is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak. Central Michigan has done an impressive job limiting the opposition to just 113.8 rushing ypg on a mere 3.4 yards per attempt. However, not to be overlooked is the team's effort against the pass, as the Chippewas are holding teams to just 216.8 ypg through the air. Surprisingly the Chippewas have only forced eight turnovers on the season (four interceptions and four fumbles), but the unit has been able to put adequate pressure on opposing quarterbacks and head into this matchup with 17 sacks. The defense struggled a bit against the pass in the team's recent matchup with Bowling Green, as the unit was torched for 343 yards. However, the team still managed to hold BGSU to a mediocre 363 total yards, and only 10 points.

The Eagles have been nothing special offensively, averaging just 329.1 total ypg, but that has not stopped the team from producing 29.0 ppg. The ground game has been led by Montel Harris, who has rumbled for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns on 5.1 yards per attempt. The passing attack has not been as productive, as Dave Shinskie has thrown for just 1,086 yards and 10 scores against seven interceptions. In the team's recent matchup against Notre Dame, the Eagles had another poor showing offensively, as the team totaled just 349 yards, en route to just 16 points. The ground game was bottled up for just 70 yards on 29 carries. Harris, was ineffective throughout and finished with just 38 yards and one touchdown on 22 totes. Shinskie was also inconsistent in the loss. The quarterback threw for 279 yards and one score, but also tossed three interceptions, two of which came late in the fourth quarter. Shinskie's main target in the contest was Rich Gunnell, who hauled in 10 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown.

Boston College's winning ledger on the year can be attributed to the play of the team's defense, which is holding opponents to just 20.6 ppg. The Eagles have done a tremendous job against the run, limiting teams to just 115.6 ypg on a mere 3.1 yards per attempt. However, the unit has been a tad inconsistent against the pass, allowing 216.5 ypg through the air. Creating big plays has been a problem for this unit as well, as the Eagles head into this matchup with only 14 takeaways and 11 sacks on the year. In the recent loss to Notre Dame the defense was once again unable to stop the pass, as BC was torched for 246 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Boston College held Notre Dame to just 5-of-15 on third down attempts, but the defense also allowed the Fighting Irish to convert on 3-of-4 red zone chances.

The Eagles have been outstanding at home this season, and while the defense has done a tremendous job stopping the run, the secondary has struggled against the pass. If LeFevour can get adequate time to throw the ball on Saturday, looking for Central Michigan to pull off the upset.
