NCAA Game Summary - Colorado At Kansas State

POSTED: 3:04 pm MDT October 24, 2009

(Sports Network) - Daniel Thomas ran for 145 yards and a touchdown, leading the Kansas State Wildcats to a 20-6 win over the Colorado Buffaloes in Big 12 action at Bill Snyder Stadium.

With Thomas powering the ground game for Kansas State (5-3, 3-1 Big 12), quarterback Grant Gregory finished with just 80 passing yards on 9-of-18 accuracy, though he did add a rushing touchdown.

The quarterback shuffle continues at Colorado (2-5, 1-2). Sophomore Tyler Hansen was making his second start of the season, but was pulled late in the second quarter and again in the fourth. He finished 7-of-14 for 89 yards and was sacked four times, while Cody Hawkins went 10-of-23 for 95 yards and two interceptions.

The Wildcats put together a four-minute drive on the game's opening possession but were held to three points, as Josh Cherry kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Colorado answered with a 13-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Rodney Stewart. But Aric Goodman missed the extra point and it remained a three-point game.

Kansas State began to take control in the second quarter, beginning with a four-yard touchdown run by Thomas with 13:19 remaining until halftime.

On the first play of the ensuing possession, Hansen lost a fumble at the CU 13. Cherry capitalized for K-State with a 27-yard field goal to make it a 13-6 game.

Late in the second quarter, the Wildcats recovered a fumble on a muffed punt at the CU 20. Four plays later, Gregory punched it in for a five-yard touchdown run to send K-State to the locker room with a 20-6 lead.

The score would remain that way through the final whistle, as Colorado's second-half drives ended with four punts, a turnover on downs and an interception.

The Buffaloes' ground game netted just 60 yards and an average of 1.9 yards per carry for the game, which contributed to a lot of third-and-long situations. They converted just 5-of-16 third downs and held a nearly 10- minute disadvantage in time of possession.
