Denver, CO -- (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche signed Craig Anderson to a two-year contract Wednesday, solidifying the club's shaky goaltending situation."In Craig we feel we have addressed a very important need within our organization," said general manager Greg Sherman. "His overall performance last year was very impressive and he is entering the prime years of his career." The 28-year-old Anderson finished third in the league last season with a .924 save percentage while making 31 appearances for Florida. He posted a 15-7-5 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and three shutouts.
"I look forward to playing with the Avalanche," said Anderson. "This team has a great mix of youth and experience and as a group, I feel we are up for the challenge of getting back into contention." Colorado's team GAA in 2008-09 was 3.04 and its .894 save percentage was tied for the third worst in the NHL. Originally selected 73rd overall by Chicago in the 2001 draft, Anderson has played in 109 career games with the Blackhawks and Panthers, posting a 36-43-11 record with two ties, a 2.87 GAA and .911 save percentage.
