Milton Records First Victory Since '06 As Dodgers Down Rockies

POSTED: 11:24 pm MDT May 26, 2009

(Sports Network) - Juan Pierre went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, while Eric Milton picked up his first win in almost three years to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, in the middle portion of a three-game series at Coors Field.

Milton (1-0) allowed one run on seven hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in five-plus innings to get his first win since August 8, 2006 versus St. Louis. Milton, who had Tommy John surgery in June 2007, missed all of last year and went 0-4 in 2007 with Cincinnati. This was Milton's second start of the season.

"It's been a long time since I had a win, but I had a goal and it was to get back to the big leagues, and pitch the way I am capable of, and I am fortunate to be right now," Milton said.

Casey Blake went 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Dodgers, who won 16-6 in the opener on Monday. Orlando Hudson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for LA, which had 12 hits in the tilt.

Aaron Cook (3-2) went six-plus frames, giving up five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts to take the loss for the Rockies, who have lost two in a row after a two-game winning streak.

Clint Barmes' homer proved to be the lone run of the contest for Colorado, which had no player with more than one hit.

"Just doesn't seem like anything's changed. We have had problems getting guys on base or knocking guys that are on base," Barmes said.

The Dodgers could only manage to score one run after loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning. Pierre singled, Hudson walked, and Andre Ethier reached on Cook's throwing error. Blake grounded into a double play but brought in Pierre in the process. James Loney grounded out to end the frame.

Blake's three-run double in the top of the fifth extended Los Angeles' margin to four. Brad Ausmus singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Milton. Hudson and Ethier walked following a Pierre groundout to load the bases. Blake then stroked a double into the gap in left-center field to clear the bases.

The Rockies cut the deficit to 4-1 on Barmes' homer to left-center field in the home half of the inning.

The Dodgers added a run in the seventh to regain a four-run cushion. Pierre tripled to right-center field and scored on Hudson's single to center. Josh Fogg then replaced Cook on the mound and got out of the frame without further damage.

Colorado had runners on first and second with one out in both the sixth and seventh inning, but failed to score on both occasions.

Pierre's two-run single in the eighth capped the scoring.

Game Notes

The Rockies went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position...Colorado right fielder Brad Hawpe missed the game with a sore groin. Los Angeles shortstop Rafael Furcal didn't play because of a sore left gluteus muscle...The Dodgers lead the season series with the Rockies, 7-1...Hudson extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
