NCAA Top-25 Basketball Game Capsules

(Sports Network) - Jonny Flynn and Eric Devendorf each scored 19 points, as 18th-ranked Syracuse pulled away to beat Seton Hall, 89-74, in a physical second round matchup of the Big East Tournament. Syracuse (24-8) advanced to face third-seeded Connecticut in the quarterfinals Thursday. Seton Hall (17-15) had beaten USF in the first round on Tuesday but had its NCAA Tournament hopes ended, along with a two-game win streak. Flynn added 11 assists, while Devendorf made 5-of-8 three-point attempts and scored all his points in the second half for the Orange, who lost their only matchup with UConn this season -- a 63-49 decision on February 11. Arinze Onuaku ended with 15 points and six rebounds, while Kristof Ongenaet had 12 points and seven assists for Syracuse. Andy Rautins had 11 points, seven boards and four assists in the win. Jeremy Hazell had a game-high 27 points for Seton Hall, while Robert Mitchell finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. John Garcia added 12 points and seven boards in the Pirates' loss.

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Wesley Matthews scored 20 points and 21st- ranked Marquette won for the first time since the devastating injury to star guard Dominic James with a 74-45 blowout of St. John's in the second round of the Big East Tournament. Lazar Hayward had 17 points, while Jerel McNeal and Jimmy Butler each scored 11 for the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles (24-8), who will face 10th-ranked Villanova in the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon. James suffered a season-ending injury when he broke a bone in his left foot during Marquette's 93-82 setback to Connecticut on February 25. The Golden Eagles were ranked eighth at the time, but fell in the rankings thanks to a four-game losing streak, which was broken Wednesday. Paris Horne had 15 points and D.J. Kennedy scored 11 for the Red Storm (16-17), who beat Georgetown, 64-59, in the first round.
