Denver, CO -- (Sports Network) - David Jones scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, while Andrew Raycroft posted his seventh straight win with 21 saves, as Colorado topped the reeling Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-3, at the Pepsi Center.Ryan Smyth, Wojtek Wolski and Cody McLeod registered a goal and an assist each for the Avalanche, who won their third straight game. Raycroft was in net for all three contests, after starter Peter Budaj allowed a total of 11 goals over Colorado's three-game slide that preceded the team's current winning streak. Raycroft continued his stellar play between the pipes, improving to 9-1 in 10 starts this season.
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist in Pittsburgh's seventh loss in the last eight games. Dany Sabourin took the loss, his sixth straight when starting, as he allowed four goals on 25 shots before being yanked prior to the third period. Marc-Andre Fleury was beaten once on seven shots in relief. "It's not going to take one guy -- it's going to take everybody to get going," Crosby said. "We know when we play top teams in the league, they're going to be gunning for us. It's going to be hard to get to the top. Our line needs to make things happen. It's not easy when you're losing." The Avs took a 4-2 lead with a pair of goals late in the middle period. Smyth dropped the disc back to Wolski, who skated in on net and flipped the puck through a screen over the shoulder of Sabourin 33 seconds past the halfway point. McLeod then tipped in a Jordan Leopold shot from the left point with 5:21 left in the period. Jordan Staal's short-handed goal 7:37 into the third cut the Pens' deficit back to one, but Jones' second goal of the game -- off a rebound in front -- pushed the Colorado lead back to two less than a minute later. Raycroft preserved the game from there. "Our line played really well today. Our team played well defensively. It was a great solid effort by everyone," Jones said. "Some nights you get all the bounces and I got two good ones today. We're on a bit of a roll. We're keeping it simple and getting the puck behind the defense." Smyth started the scoring at 10:44 of the first period, getting a piece of Wolski's shot while screening in front, but Malkin evened the score with a power-play marker at 15:41, one-timing a cross-ice pass from Crosby. Jones netted his first tally of the game 2:06 into the second, cleaning up a rebound in front off a John-Michael Liles shot. But Crosby took a pass from Malkin in stride at the left circle and beat Raycroft with a low shot at 8:44 to tie the game at two.
