After 24 hours, 63 laps, and 205,821 vertical feet, Casey Puckett of Aspen, Colorado, won the men's division in the 14th Annual 24 Hours of Aspen endurance race Monday.

Puckett took a two second lead on the first lap and finished 17 seconds ahead of Michael Brunner of Germany, the defending men's champion. Brunner took second place overall with a time of 2:19.03. Placing third was William Besse of Switzerland with a time of 2:19.56. Puckett will ski away with the $10,000 first prize.

Aleisha Cline of Canada won the women's division. Cline took the lead on lap two and finished 38 seconds ahead of Asia Jenkins who finished the race with a time of 2.30.22. Third place was Canadian Wendy Lumby with a time of 2:32.36. Cline returns to Aspen in January 2003 to race in the Skiercross event at the Winter X Games.

The racers joined the cheering crowds to celebrate the end of the race Monday with champagne after 24 grueling hours on the mountain. The skiers battled sub-zero temperatures and high winds throughout race while fighting extreme fatigue and the challenges of a 3-mile race course where speeds were clocked in excess of 99 mph.

The race took a toll in the early morning hours Monday. Slovenian Ales Brezavscek was the first to drop out, due to back pain. Last year's champion Christian Deissenboeck of Germany had a bad fall on the tough Kleenex Corner and dropped out.

With only two hours left in the race Canadian Anik Demers crashed at the bottom of Spar Gulch, skied to the finish line and collapsed in pain.
