Bowling Green Head Coach Brandon Let Go

POSTED: 3:06 pm MST November 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Bowling Green announced Saturday that head football coach Gregg Brandon will not return to the program after six seasons in the position.

Brandon and the school agreed to a two-year contract extension back in 2003 that ran through the end of this season. The Falcons finished 2008 with a 6-6 record, and a 4-4 mark in the Mid-American Conference. In six years under Brandon, Bowling Green went 44-30 overall with a 31-17 MAC record.

"This was a difficult decision, but ultimately I believe it's time for BGSU football to make a coaching change," said Bowling Green athletic director Greg Christopher. "Gregg's time at Bowling Green has been marked by a number of accomplishments. I want to thank him for his dedication and commitment to Falcon football."

Christopher added that the search for the school's next coach will begin immediately.

Brandon was hired by Bowling Green in 2001 as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, then took over the head coaching post in December 2002. With Brandon as coach, the Falcons went to three bowl games -- the 2003 Motor City Bowl, and the 2004 and 2008 GMAC Bowls -- and won the 2003 MAC West title and tied for first in the East in 2005 and 2007.
