NCAA Game Summary - Iowa State At Colorado

(Sports Network) - The Colorado defense stuffed Alexander Robinson at the goal line on the final play of the game to preserve a 28-24 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in a Big 12 Conference showdown at Folsom Stadium.

The Buffaloes (5-5, 2-4 Big 12) were led by quarterback Cody Hawkins, who replaced starter Tyler Hansen in the second half. Hawkins was outstanding, completing 20-of-29 pass attempts for 226 yards and four touchdowns.

Cody Crawford and Scotty McKnight were Hawkins' favorite targets. Crawford hauled in eight passes for 79 yards and a score, while McKnight finished the day with six catches for 62 yards and two TDs.

The Cyclones (2-8, 0-6) were paced by Robinson, who carried the ball 23 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

ISU got on the board midway through the first quarter, when Grant Mahoney drilled a 24-yard field goal.

The Cyclones extended their lead to 10-0 in the final minute of the first half, as Jason Scales powered his way into the end zone from the one-yard line.

After a scoreless first half, Colorado finally got on the board at the 9:50 mark of the third quarter, when Hawkins found McKnight for a four-yard touchdown pass. However, the extra-point attempt was blocked.

Hawkins and McKnight hooked up again for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter.

ISU responded on its next drive with a 14-yard touchdown run by Robinson to put the Cyclones back on top, 17-13.

Robinson made it a 24-13 game on a one-yard touchdown run with 9:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Colorado made it a four-point game with seven minutes to play, when Hawkins hooked up with Patric Williams for a 14-yard scoring strike. Colorado decided to go for two and was successful, as Hawkins found Jake Behrens in the end zone to make it a 24-21 game.

The Buffaloes finished off their comeback with an 11-play, 81-yard drive, capped off by a five-yard touchdown strike from Hawkins to Crawford. The score proved to be the winning touchdown, as the Colorado was able to hold its ground.

The Buffaloes were able to move the chains by converting 9-of-17 third downs.
