Incident Not Related To Arrest Of Lynn Katoa

For the second time in as many days, a player on the CU football team was arrested in connection with an assault at a party.

Boulder police said Riar Geer was arrested Friday night after he was identified by the two victims of an assault.

Head coach Dan Hawkins said Geer "has been suspended immediately from everything football related, including practice, until the legal system and CU’s Office of Judicial Affairs have completed their processes."

The two victims, Hunter Wright and Alexander Williams, both 19, told police they had been confronted by Geer at a house party at 18th and Cascade streets, said police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.

Wright and Williams told police they got into a verbal fight with Geer after he knocked a hat from one of their friends' head, Huntley said. The fight turned violent and both Williams and Wright were hit in the head, she said.

When police arrived, both teens were bleeding from their mouths, Huntley said.

When police found Geer, he had cuts on his eyebrow and on his hand, Huntley said, and was identified by the victims as having been involved in the fight.

Geer was booked into the Boulder County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault and harassment.

Williams was taken to the hospital to be examined for injuries to his mouth and teeth. He was treated and released. Wright declined medical treatment, Huntley said.

Also on Friday, Lynn Katoa, 18, turned himself in and is being held for investigation for second-degree assault. This alleged assault is not connected with Geer's arrest.

Police were called to an apartment at Euclid Avenue and 12th Street early Feb. 16 on a report of an assault. Witnesses said a member of the football team came through the door, yelling, then pushed one victim's head into the wall and hit him in the forehead while holding a rock in his fist. Witnesses said the football player then punched a second victim in the head.

"It's unfortunate we’ve had these instances back-to-back, and once again, I do not condone our players engaging in this kind of conduct," Hawkins said.
