Hobart, Australia -- (Sports Network) - Vera Zvonareva of Russia and Greece's Eleni Daniilidou won semifinal matches Thursday and will play for the title at the Moorilla International tennis tournament. The second-seeded Zvonareva cruised past American qualifier Ashley Harkleroad, 6-2, 6-1, while Daniilidou notched a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Italy's Flavia Pennetta. Zvonareva will try for her sixth career WTA singles title on Friday and first since capturing the Cincinnati tournament in the summer of 2006. She reached just one final last year, losing to Jelena Jankovic in an Australian Open tuneup at Auckland.
Her 2007 season, however, included a wrist injury that occurred in April and kept her out of action until the U.S. Open in late August. Daniilidou has four career WTA singles titles to her credit, but none since 2006 in Seoul. She beat Zvonareva in the quarterfinals of that tournament and has a record of 2-1 against the 23-year-old Muscovite. The winner of Friday's final Aussie Open tuneup will earn a first prize of $25,650.
