World Series Tickets Will Only Be Sold Online

Some Loyal Fans Angry

Because of the incredible demand for World Series tickets, the Rockies on Wednesday announced a change to the way fans can purchase tickets for World Series games at Coors Field.

The World Series tickets for Games 3, 4 and 5 will only be available online at ColoradoRockies.com beginning Monday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. MST.

The team is doing away with the lottery system so fans won't have to wait in line at the ticket office or the Rockies' Dugout Stores.

"It's our attempt to get as many tickets to as many Rockies fans as possible," said Rockies President Keli McGregor. "After consulting with Major League Baseball, we felt this was the best way to create a fair and equitable distribution of tickets for the first-ever World Series in Colorado."

Some fans are disappointed about the decision.

"By making this change, we must now compete with thousands and thousands of scalpers all over the country who have just as good of a shot at getting tickets as we do, possibly better," one fan tells 7NEWS.

Several teams conducted Internet-only sales for their postseason tickets, including the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres.

"After our experience with the Wild Card tiebreaker game, as well as Division Series and Championship Series games, we came to the conclusion that no other method of ticket distribution is quicker or more efficient than the Internet," McGregor said.

There will still be a limit of four tickets per person per game. Service charges will apply to all sales. Prices range from $65 for Rockpile tickets (401-403) to $250 for Infield Box (119-142) and the Club Level (214-247).

  SURVEY
Do you think it's a good idea to only sell the World Series tickets online?

The Rockies said that they are confident that their computer servers can handle the amount of traffic that is expected.

"After we went through the tie-breaker game with the San Diego Padres, a couple of weeks ago, when we were selling 500 tickets a minute (online), we are very comfortable we can handle it on this end," said Rockies spokesman Jay Alves

As for fans without computers or Internet access?

"We feel this is the fairest way to do it, without a doubt. Rather than have them wait in line, and then maybe not get two tickets. If they don't have a computer, I would tell them to get to a library, get to somewhere where they can get online, and be a part of this," Alves said.

However some fans wrote to 7NEWS saying they had problems with buying tickets online.

"I think the bigger problem for many of us is the fact that I have very little faith that I'll even get through on the Internet, as was the problem with the previous games," said Rockies fan Greg R. from Denver.

"I expect to hit blank pages and to not be able to complete the transactions and to not get any tickets," Greg said.

There are less than 20,000 tickets available for each game because the other seats have been snatched up by season ticket holders.

Refunds for games not played will be handled through the Coors Field Ticket Office only.

Refund checks will be processed within four to six weeks after the tickets have been returned for processing. Credit cards will not be credited.

According to the Rockies' Web site, season ticket holders will also have an exclusive opportunity to purchase additional World Series tickets during a special presale on Sunday, Oct, 21. Ticket limits will apply. Season ticket holders will receive an e-mail with further details. The presale is online only at ColoradoRockies.com.

Fans should call 303-ROCKIES if they have any questions.
