Suspect Donates 58 Confiscated Tickets To Charity

It was one of the biggest questions swirling around Denver last week.

What happens to the 58 baseball tickets police confiscated from an alleged scalper?

We now have the answer. They have been given to charity.

The suspect, Charles Whitlock, worked out a deal with Denver Police and the Colorado Rockies. He is donating 58 tickets to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

"It's crazy," said Jose Casteneda, one of the lucky kids who got a ticket. "Tickets are blowing up in prices and I can't afford one."

"It feels good to be able to go," added Jose Cuevas, another of the lucky ones.

When the director of the Boys & Girls Clubs Johnson branch made the announcement Monday afternoon, there was a big round of applause.

"We're fortunate to have a national partnership with Major League Baseball, said Tina Martinez, the Director of Programming for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

The tickets were confiscated last week after Charle Whitlock allegedly tried to sell them for a huge profit. He spent $5,280 on 60 tickets. Police say he'd already sold two of them when they nabbed him in a sting. They say he had a spreadsheet and was hoping to make $14,000 profit.

In a press release, Whitlock apologized for his behavior and said, "I'd like to serve as a reminder to the community that it is always best to do the right thing."

He added that, "Baseball games are one of America's greatest pastimes, and should be enjoyed by all."

Martinez said the donated tickets give the organization a chance to recognize outstanding youth.

"Anytime we're able to provide an opportunity like this for kids," she said, "they're really appreaciative and excited."

Martinez said the tickets will give some of the kids "bragging rights" around the club for a few days.

"Everybody's a Rockies fan right now," she said. "We're so excited. The kids are monitoring it at the clubs, and are hoping that the Rockies go all they way."
