John Elway is returning to football as the quarterback coach of his son's high school football team.

The former Broncos star signed on as the quarterback coach at Cherry Creek High School, where his son, Jack, is a senior and the starting passer.

Elway has spent a lot of time on the sidelines in the past year, watching his son at games and practices. He was able to clear his busy schedule to be at most practices in the afternoons, and plans to be at every game this season.

Elway said his son, who also wears No. 7, has great potential and a great future as a college quarterback. While the younger Elway has not yet decided where he will attend college, he is hoping to play Division I football and has made unofficial visits to Oregon and UCLA.

Elway last coached his son during his pee-wee football years. He will be working under Greg Critchett, who will remain Cherry Creek's head coach.

The school did not said how much Elway will be paid, or even if he will be paid.
