Rockies Sweep Yankees; Clemens Denied 350th Win

Proud Rockies Fans Fill Denver Streets

(Sports Network) - Troy Tulowitzki had three hits including a home run, as Colorado edged New York, 4-3, to complete a three-game sweep of the Yankees at Coors Field.

Garrett Atkins hit a homer and finished with two RBI while Todd Helton finished 2-for-4 for the red-hot Rockies, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Colorado starter Rodrigo Lopez (4-0) gave up two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings for the victory while Brian Fuentes notched his 20th save of the season.

New York starter Roger Clemens (1-2), who was aiming for the 350th win of his career, lasted just 4 1/3 frames, allowing four runs on seven hits. The 44- year-old also fanned six while walking just one.

Hideki Matsui hit a two-run home run for the Yankees, who were swept by Colorado for the first time in franchise history.

With the score tied at 2-2, the Rockies scored twice in the fifth to take the lead. Kaz Matsui singled with one out and stole second. Matt Holliday then lofted a single to center to bring Matsui home and remove Clemens from the game as Mike Myers entered the contest. Helton greeted Myers with a single as Holliday hustled to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Atkins to make it 4-2.

New York manufactured a run in the seventh to cut its deficit to one run. Robinson Cano started the frame with a ground-rule double and advanced to third on Miguel Cairo's sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter Melky Cabrera then plated Cano with a sac-fly to make it 4-3.

Alex Rodriguez singled with two outs in the eighth, but was stranded as Jorge Posada grounded out to end the threat.

Fuentes tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the victory for Colorado.

The Yankees grabbed an early lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Hideki Matsui. Alex Rodriguez singled to lead off the frame and with one out, Matsui launched a homer to straight away center.

Colorado answered in the home half of the second with a pair of solo shots from Atkins and Tulowitzki that tied things at 2-2.

John Keiley, a long-time Mets fan, and the owner of Johnny's New York Pizza in Lakewood made a deal to give every customer a free 12-inch pizza on Friday if the Rockies swept the Yankees.

Johnny's is located at 1000 South Wadsworth, and everybody is welcome to free pizza from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
